The 2013 Exton Fete gave us the opportunity to engage children and families from our local villages in our Saxon heritage

This first video clip (for which you will need access to YouTube) shows a young King Harold, whose demise in 1066 at the battle of Hastings every school child knows about, being carried on a shield cortege back to the Saxon camp

THE VIDEOS ARE PRODUCED BY STEVE HAMMAL WHO WE ARE COMMISSIONING TO PRODUCE A DOCUMENTARY OF THE MEON VALLEY SAXON HERITAGE PROGRAMME. Steve was introduced to us by the Media Trust, a partner introduced by the Heritage Lottery Fund ‘all our stories’ programme

We were joined by Herigeas Hundas our Saxon re-enactment partners, by our archaeology team and archaeologists from Winchester and Hampshire County Council.

Meon Valley Councillor Norma Bodtger (whose husband Ernest “is a genuine Viking”!) sums up in the following clip the appeal of the Fete and the Saxon experience – “a wonderful day for our villages, exciting, educational, importance of our children understanding their heritage… it’s where we come from”

…. re-live the excitement of the day for all who were there
