We are grateful to the South Downs National Park Authority and the following for their support in funding this community archaeology programme. Corhampton & Meonstoke Parish Council, Council for British Archaeology (CBA), Friends of Corhampton Church (HLF Grant), Hampshire County Council, Hampshire Field Club & Archaeological Society, Robert Kiln Charitable Trust, Winchester City Council, Winchester University

The following video clips capture some of our discussions, planning and walks-about in preparation for these surveys

a) A group of local villagers chatting at the Bucks Head in Meonstoke about the arheological surveys and other aspects of the Saxon heritage programme. This particular clip also introduces Darren Hammerton. Darren, a local ancient woodland expert and enthusiast, is setting out his vision for building a Saxon boat to again row on the Meon.

b) Gordon Hope, Droxford historian, guiding our lead archaeologist, Dr Nick Stoodley, on a walk-about Droxford and Soberton. Gordon and Nick are joined by Droxford, Soberton and Meonstoke residents John Whittaker, Harry Martineau, David Salmon, Frances Keppel, Ann Pendred and Guy Liardet.

c) The Exton Fete, where the archaeology team, joined by local Councillor Norma Bodtger (whose husband Ernest traces his line back to the Vikings!) Alex Godden (Hampshire county Archaeologist) and Katie Hinds our local Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) coordinator from the Winchester Museum service. The archaeologists met local people, enjoying an iconic English country fete, to engage them in our heritage and plans for the survey

d) The Saxon heritage community programme leaders (Guy Liardet & Peter O’Sullivan) meeting with our archaeology team – Dr Nick Stoodley, lead archaeologist, Mark Stedman, archaeologist, Mike Gaines, metal detectorist, and David Ashby, geophysics (University of Winchester).  The meeting is in the church of St Andrew’s in Meonstoke, just a couple of hundred yards from the Saxon Church at Corhampton
